The aim of the project is to prepare young people for life in a world affected by the climate and environmental crisis, and to strengthen their sense of agency in taking action for the future. The objective is to build skills in sustainable development amongst primary school children through collaboration between schools and libraries.
The project will focus on developing competencies such as: systems thinking and critical thinking, an understanding of the complex interrelationships between the environment, society and the economy, the ability to formulate problems, and the ability to envisage a sustainable future. An important element of the activities will also be fostering attitudes of social responsibility, cooperation and civic initiative.
Teachers and librarians will play a key role in the project; through training and subject-matter support, they will become facilitators of the learning process. Thanks to them, children and young people will understand complex environmental challenges, manage the emotions associated with the climate crisis more effectively, and move from knowledge to real action.
As part of the project, partnerships will be formed between schools and libraries, which will jointly design local educational activities. Participants will take part in training sessions, receive expert support and grants to create spaces co-designed by children, intended for meetings, learning and joint action to benefit the environment. The project also involves the implementation of children’s initiatives and civic activities that will enable young people to experience a real impact on their surroundings.
The ‘Kaleidoscope’ project is being implemented by the Information Society Development Foundation in collaboration with the National Centre for Culture. The project is funded by Villum Fonden.
