What we do

PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS

We support institutions, organisations and local leaders in building active, open communities, developing competences and harnessing the potential of digital technologies. We respond to the global challenges of today.

Our flagship projects are: Library Development Programme, supporting public libraries in their role as local centres of social activity, and Sector 3.0, helping community NGOs and local leaders to implement new technologies in socially useful activities.

We co-create the Active Citizens Fund – Regional Programme, in which we strengthen local community organisations and work for the development of civil society.

We support the integration of migrants into Polish communities. In the projects Library for All. Different. Equal. Important and Library for All. My Place we enable children and young people, from Ukraine and Poland, to learn, play and establish relationships together, as well as help them choose an educational or career path. In the My Digital Life project, we help develop the competences of job seekers as well as entrepreneurs from Ukraine and Belarus.

We support the development of discussion, communication and critical thinking skills. In the project How to Talk? Fostering Information Literacy as a Core Competence for Informed Citizenship in a Participatory Democracy, together with local leaders, we create opportunities for communities to talk about issues that are important to them and prepare them to do so.

We constantly emphasise that libraries play an invaluable role in today’s world – both as institutions that provide people with essential knowledge or entertainment resources and as partners in action for the common good. In the Libraries for Climate project, we encourage librarians to conduct climate education and mobilise communities for action.

CONFERENCES

We have experience in organising engaging, cutting-edge national conferences. Every year during the “Setor 3.0 Festival” we inspire and present trends from the world of new technologies and show how to put digital strategies and tools into practice in social activities. For the past 15 years, we have been organising nationwide library congresses where librarians share their knowledge and ideas for action for local people. Our events are a combination of inspiring lectures, presentations as well as workshops and other active forms.

SOCIAL CAMPAIGNS

We have been coordinating the european All Digital Weeks campaign in Poland for more than ten years. We are a co-organiser of the nationwide Night of Libraries campaign. Every year we support the social and educational Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Campaign. Together with partners and in cooperation with libraries, we organise educational campaigns on important current topics.

SUPPORTING LIBRARY PROFESSIONALS AND FACILITATING NETWORKS

We promote networking by developing communities of our partners across Poland and encouraging their representatives to share knowledge, exchange experiences and implement joint projects.

We created LABIB – a network of leaders and innovators in the library community, transformed into the Labib Association. In 25 libraries across Poland, we created Innovation Zones – places where people meet, discuss and seek solutions to problems important to their communities. We initiated the InicJaTyWy group of library directors, sharing their experience and sensitivity with other managers of cultural institutions. The group develops its activities as the INICJaTyWy Library Directors’ Association.
